For half of the earth, today is the shortest amount of daylight we’ll experience all year: the winter solstice. Is it any wonder that our ancient celebrations during this season centered around light?
The candles that glow from our windows, the lights twinkling on the tree, the candles flickering from sconces and frosted glass votives… all reminders that this darkness is not permanent. The light will return.
Today’s selection has no lyrics, but it’s a song that evokes light (in both title and in composition). Ola Gjeilo is a contemporary Norwegian composer and pianist, and his music (in my humble opinion) is ethereal. “Dawn” comes from his album Winter Songs. I would highly recommend the entire album if you enjoy today’s song 🙂
