The notes of this modern Christmas song compose one of the most hauntingly beautiful melodies of this season (in my humble opinion). Upon reading my friend Christine’s Advent reflection a few days ago (which I highly recommend! – visit her website https://www.christineannapeterson.com/ for details), I felt a strong desire to learn the chords to this lovely song.
And so “Mary, Did You Know” is my selection for today. I wish I had good recording equipment and the tech knowledge to create a better video, but it’s just me and my iPhone… I hope you enjoy despite its simplicity.
“Mary, Did You Know” (Songwriters: Buddy Greene / Mark Lowry; Mary, Did You Know? lyrics © Warner Chappell Music, Inc, Capitol Christian Music Group)
Mary, did you know that your baby boy would one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you’ve delivered, will soon deliver you
Mary, did you know that your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy will calm a storm with his hand?
Did you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little baby, you kiss the face of God
Mary, did you know? Mary, did you know?
The blind will see, the deaf will hear, the dead will live again
The lame will leap, the dumb will speak, the praises of the lamb
Mary, did you know, that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know, that your baby boy would one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your baby boy is Heaven’s perfect lamb?
That sleeping child you’re holding is the great I am
Mary, did you know? Mary, did you know? Mary, did you know?
