At the Boston Pops concert my husband and I attended last night, Keith Lockhart introduced this piece as “the song that needs no introduction.” Indeed, I think there’s hardly a Christmas fan who can’t hum at least a bit of the tune to Sleigh Ride. The Boston Pops have recorded this over the years both as an instrumental piece and with choir; I love both but found this recording of John Williams (yes, THE John Williams!) conducting the Pops and couldn’t resist sharing. I’ll post the lyrics too, for good measure 😉
“Sleigh Ride” (Songwriters: Leroy Anderson / Mitchell Parish; Sleigh Ride lyrics © BMG Rights Management)
Just hear those sleigh bells jingling, ring tingle tingling too
Come on, it’s lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you
Outside the snow is falling and friends are calling “yoo hoo!”
Come on, it’s lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you
Our cheeks are nice and rosy and comfy and cozy are we
We’re snuggled up together like two birds of a feather would be
Let’s take the road before us and sing a chorus or two
Come on, it’s lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you
Our cheeks are nice and rosy and comfy and cozy are we
We’re snuggled up together like two birds of a feather would be
Let’s take the road before us and sing a chorus or two
Come on, it’s lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you
