If I had to choose an instrument that captures the spirit of the season, it would be bells. Sleigh bells, church bells, jingle bells… There’s no shortage of holiday songs about bells, but the one I’d like to share is called Bells of Christmas, from Irish harpist and singer Órla Fallon. If you’re familiar with the group sensation Celtic Woman, you’ve probably heard Órla’s lovely voice; she’s a founding member of the group. This song from her solo holiday album is filled with beautiful imagery.

Bells of Christmas, Órla Fallon

December’s fingers touch my window
I’m looking out on a windblown night
I feel the sigh of magic
On shadowed wings from the fields of white
And then in the starry night…

(Chorus) The Christmas bells ring a silver tune
The angels ring all around the moon
My fire burns by the holly tree
My dream stands there in the flames for me
I see a place where laughter rings
Fears of forgotten pain
This winter world is changed to spring
When the bells of Christmas ring

Somewhere inside the sleeping darkness
Unbroken love in the heart and sky
Below these frozen meadows
An April dawn, tell me where is light
It comes in a distant chime…

(Chorus)

Sweet sounds, filling the air
Sweet sounds, lifting the cares of the world
I need…
Old songs, gracefully drawn
Old songs, calling to all of the world
…Fears of forgotten pain…
When the bells of Christmas ring

(Chorus)
